Ante Post

Ante Post originates from horse racing. The term was used in reference to placing a bet before the horse goes to “post”, which marks the start of a horse race. In football betting terms, ante post refers to bets that are placed to predict the winners of major leagues and tournaments. Other forms of ante post betting are those of predicting which teams are getting relegated and top scorers.

Ante post betting comes both with advantages and disadvantages. The main advantage of ante post betting is that the punter has time to amend his bet to adjust it to the way the market is evolving. On the other hand the main disadvantage is that ante post betting can tie up the punters’ capital for a relatively long period of time.
